Golden Bay Accommodation

Okay, I confess.

When we rode to the top of the hill to the luxury B& B that is the Song of the Tui my first thought was “Oh Riley, you’ve screwed it up this time!”

After some terrific accommodation that suited 5 blokes on a motorbike trip around New Zealand, you can imagine my surprise to find ourselves at a gorgeous Bed & Breakfast run by an English artist called Reg Turner.

It didn’t really seem our style.  And we were here for 2 nights!

Riley The Excellent Accommodation Selector

At the end of the stay with Reg it was unanimously voted that Riley is indeed a genius and would forthwith be know as “Riley The Excellent Accommodation Selector”!

When it was time to leave Reg’s delightful place no-one really wanted to go – he’d looked after us so well in his beautiful home with the amazing views, limpy dog called Princess, incredible food and much more that it was one of the highlights of the trip.

Reg makes you feel very welcome and it’s very obvious that he loves what he does.

You see, Reg is an accommodation veteran – he pioneered the luxury lodges of NZ, building the stunningly located Solitaire Lodge, and the lovely Cassimir Lodge.

This boutique lodge in the beautiful and historical valley of the Aorere River, Golden Bay, is scene to one of the stunning backdrops used in Lord of the Rings movies.

Dinner Delight

“I do a mean curry – want a curry tonight fellas?” he asked.

Reg charges $60 a head when he cooks you up dinner.  Reg’s idea of a curry is a 3 course feast that New Zealand’s best chefs would have trouble competing with for double the price!

Fantastic food, amazing value.

(Just to top off his talents, Reg is also a wonderful artist and his works lined the walls ready for an exhibition in Nelson later in the year.)
